Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS)

Precision in every degree: inertial sensors for reliable AHRS navigation

In aviation, knowing an aircraft’s exact attitude is fundamental to reliable navigation. Attitude Heading Reference Systems (AHRS) continuously determine changes in roll, pitch and yaw, helping establish the aircraft’s orientation in relation to the Earth.

At the heart of this precision are high-performance inertial sensors.

For AHRS applications, the bias stability of the integrated gyroscopes is critical: Values better than 5 °/h are required for the necessary accuracy. ASC’s tactical-grade ASC 281 (uniaxial) and ASC 283 (triaxial) gyroscopes go significantly further, achieving a bias stability of <0.1 °/h and an angular random walk of <0.01 °/√h.

Based on proven MEMS vibrating-ring technology, both sensors combine exceptional precision with high resistance to external impacts and vibrations – important characteristics for demanding aviation environments. Their performance approaches levels otherwise associated with fiber-optic gyroscopes (FOG).
