Moon and Mars conditions at the push of a button

From micro-g to Mars: precision for space research

How do you verify conditions approaching one millionth of Earth’s gravity? At the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) at the University of Bremen, Germany, the answer includes high-precision inertial sensors from ASC.

In ZARM’s Drop Tower and GraviTower Bremen, researchers conduct experiments under near-weightless conditions – supporting fields from fundamental physics and materials science to technologies for future space missions.

The ASC EQ series plays a critical role in validating these conditions. With exceptionally low noise and resolution of better than 1 µg, ASC EQ accelerometers capture the minute residual accelerations that determine microgravity quality.

At the same time, the triaxial ASC 283-010 gyroscope measures the minimal rotational speeds of the experiment capsules during free fall. Its narrow ±10°/s measurement range enables these tiny angular velocities to be captured at high resolution, while bias stability of <0.1°/h and angular random walk of <0.01°/√h deliver the precision required for reliable evaluation.

Together, these sensors help create controlled, reproducible research conditions – including simulations of partial gravity on the Moon and Mars.

When forces become almost imperceptible, measurement precision becomes mission-critical.

Make the connection to discover how ASC inertial sensors can support your next research project.
