ASC IMU 8
6 DOF, modular concept
Acceleration: ±2 to ±30 g
Angular rates: 10 °/s to 400 °/s
Output signal: Analog | Voltage
Hyperloop promises to transform mobility by moving people and goods through low-pressure tubes at extraordinary speeds. But turning that vision into reality requires solving complex engineering challenges – including something seemingly simple: changing lanes.
At Delft Hyperloop, founded in 2016 by tech students at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, the Helios III pod was developed to demonstrate this critical maneuver. During a lane switch, forces acting on the pod must be precisely balanced while position changes and even minimal angular velocities are continuously monitored.
This is where the ASC IMU 8 plays a crucial role. The tactical-grade inertial measurement unit captures position changes across all six degrees of freedom in real time. Its gyroscopes offer bias stability of <0.1°/h and angular random walk of <0.01°/√h. While its accelerometers provide excellent in-run bias stability to deliver the accuracy and repeatability required for advanced navigation and control.
The outcome? High-precision inertial data helping Delft Hyperloop push a futuristic transport concept closer to real-world implementation.
Because the future of mobility won’t just depend on speed – but on controlling it with precision.
