RAIL TRANSPORT

Passenger ride comfort (EN 12299)

Ride comfort starts with measuring what passengers actually feel

A smooth journey is more than a matter of perception. EN 12299 provides a standardized framework for evaluating passenger ride comfort by measuring the vibrations and motions experienced inside rail vehicles.

The challenge? Human sensitivity to mechanical vibration depends strongly on direction, frequency and amplitude. Discomfort is particularly relevant at frequencies below 10 Hz – making precise measurement of very small linear accelerations and low-frequency vibrations essential.

ASC offers several high-performance solutions for these demanding measurements. The ASC 4411LN and ASC 5511LN low-noise capacitive accelerometers provide the excellent signal-to-noise ratio needed to capture even the smallest frequencies and amplitudes. For applications requiring maximum robustness, the ASC OS-315LN-PG combines high precision with a hermetically sealed stainless-steel housing designed for harsh railway environments. ASC sensors have already proven their capabilities in passenger train commissioning and certification testing.

And with the digital ASC DiSens ECO RAIL accelerometer, measurement setups can benefit from intelligent digital sensor technology specifically designed for railway applications.

Want to turn precise acceleration data into measurable passenger comfort? Let’s find the right sensor solution for your next rail project together.
