RENEWABLE ENERGIES

Detection of swaying of the tower and nacelle

Keeping offshore wind turbines steady and efficient

Far offshore, wind turbines face forces from every direction: Aerodynamic loads tilt the tower, waves create hydrodynamic movement and even seismic activity on the seabed can influence stability and structure. Understanding this complex mix of motions is critical to optimizing performance and protecting valuable assets.

ASC ECO series accelerometers provide robust, high-precision measurement of acceleration and vibration. Their capacitive MEMS technology captures signals down to DC, while compact IP68 design makes the ECO series well suited to demanding monitoring environments.

For applications requiring a complete picture of movement, JAE inertial measurement units, available through ASC, combine triaxial acceleration and angular-rate measurement across six degrees of freedom. Originally derived from JAE’s aerospace technology, these digital IMUs deliver precise motion and orientation data for sophisticated monitoring systems.

Together, these technologies can provide engineers with valuable insights into structural behavior – facilitating condition monitoring, optimized operation and greater turbine availability.

As offshore, every movement matters. Understanding it can avoid costly damage and help turn wind into yet more reliable energy.

Find out how ASC inertial sensor technology can strengthen your sustainable wind energy generation strategy.
