Modal and structural analyses

Structural integrity under scrutiny: precision sensors in modal testing

Aircraft structures face demanding loads throughout their service life – from take-off and landing to turbulence and high-dynamic flight maneuvers. Over time, fatigue, overload or material defects can alter structural rigidity and dynamic behavior.

Modal and structural analyses help make these changes visible. By identifying natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping characteristics, aerospace engineers can assess structural behavior, validate designs and detect potentially critical changes.
The challenge: the sensors themselves must have minimal influence on the structure being tested.

ASC offers lightweight, high-frequency IEPE accelerometers ideally equipped for this task. The triaxial KS903B.10 and KS903B.100, for example, weigh lower than 10 grams. Together with the uniaxial KS96B.10, KS96B.100, KS97B.10 and KS97B.100 (mass is around 3 grams depending on the corresponding model) the portfolio provides measurement ranges from ±60 g to ±600 g, top or side connector options as well as TEDS integration.
