What would you like to explore?

The ASC team will be showcasing latest advances in inertial sensor technology to help drive railway success around the globe. Among a wide range of specific applications to discuss at our booth, two distinct highlights include:

Wireless smart sensor solution for track monitoring

At InnoTrans, we will introduce a novel wireless smart sensor platform co-developed with DB Systemtechnik (DBST). It significantly facilitates continuous track monitoring (CTM) from active in-service trains. Key benefits include

  • a vastly simplified certification process,
  • fast and easy installation,
  • less engineering effort,
  • reduced costs across hardware, engineering and certification and
  • no more traffic delays or disruptions for separate inspection,

while track geometry data are captured and processed 24/7 with great accuracy in real-time.

Live demo to make wheel-rail interactions measurable

The wheel-rail contact is still a fascinating yet complex phenomenon. In reality, a train weighing many tons often makes contact with the rail via each wheel over an area no larger than a two-euro coin. Physical forces acting on this tiny surface determine whether a train runs safely, how much energy it consumes and how quickly the materials wear down. In our demo set-up at InnoTrans, ASC will showcase how the consequences of wheel-rail interactions can be measured and analysed using the following monitoring approaches:

  1. Vehicle monitors vehicle: ASC sensors installed on our demo train capture running characteristics and ride comfort – supporting vehicle certification and in-service monitoring
  2. Vehicle monitors infrastructure: ASC accelerometers and gyroscopes turn in-service trains into mobile monitoring platforms for railway infrastructure
  3. Infrastructure monitors vehicle: ASC accelerometers support wayside monitoring systems by measuring and categorizing loads caused by passing trains
  4. Infrastructure monitors infrastructure: ASC sensor solutions enable continuous and ad-hoc structural health monitoring of infrastructure assets such as bridges, tracks, sleepers, switches and tunnels

Increased vehicle and infrastructure safety

Discover how to improve the safety of rolling stock and infrastructure while keeping down upfront investment and operational costs. A key component of this is the ASC RAIL series of extremely robust, flexible, high-precision inertial sensors qualified to EN 50155 and other relevant railway standards. Leveraged by a growing number of manufacturers, system integrators and operators, they provide a strong basis for optimized rail applications.

Recent adopters include ProRail, the Dutch government organization in charge of maintenance and the extension of the country’s railway network infrastructure, who leverages ASC RAIL sensors for the characterization of track geometry according to EN 13848. And CETEST, a leading railway testing and analysis center in Spain, utilizing ASC RAIL accelerometers in measuring and evaluating vehicle dynamics and ride comfort during regular passenger train operation.

Tell us what you need – we’ll find the best way of measuring it

As no two rail projects are exactly alike, flexibility matters. ASC works closely with customers to configure sensor solutions around specific measurement challenges – combining precision technology with engineering expertise and a genuine passion for problem solving.

On rolling stock, tracks, bridges and other critical infrastructure, reliable data can make all the difference. Close collaboration broadens the range of sensor models ASC can bring to demanding rail and infrastructure applications. For customers, this means access to an even wider sensor portfolio – and the opportunity to develop a fitting solution rather than simply purchasing a product off the shelf.
