RAIL TRANSPORT

Monitoring of railway bridges

Smarter bridge monitoring for safer rail infrastructure

Railway bridges are critical assets – exposed every day to dynamic loads, environmental influences and the long-term effects of intensive traffic. Continuous Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) can provide the data needed to detect changes early, plan maintenance proactively and keep infrastructure available reliably.

ASC offers diverse sensors for this demanding task. ASC CS and ASC ECO CS accelerometers feature a current output signal, enabling reliable, virtually loss-free signal transmission over long cable distances – a key advantage for large bridge structures.

For smart monitoring concepts, the ASC AiSys® ECO series goes further: smart sensor systems enable continuous acquisition and analysis of dynamic structural behavior, supporting efficient, condition-based and predictive maintenance.

For applications demanding exceptional precision and long-term stability, the ASC QBA-1515 provides servo-balanced quartz technology. With a resolution better than 1 µg and a 4–20 mA current output, these accelerometers can capture even the smallest vibrations while ensuring reliable data transmission. ASC QBA sensors are already integrated into a major UK high-speed railway viaduct for permanent structural monitoring.
